Master-McNeil has extensive in-house preliminary search capabilities. This searching, conducted by our full-time research staff, enables us to eliminate obviously unavailable names early in our creative process, focusing our creative work on more promising directions, and increasing the likelihood that names survive full trademark searches at the end of the creative process.
Our search process typically begins with a review of registered trademarks in the United States. This is followed by a detailed look at common law name usage, using a variety of print and online resources as appropriate to the particular project.
Despite the thoroughness of our preliminary search process, we strongly encourage clients to undertake a full search process of all chosen canidate names. We are able to refer clients to excellent trademark counsel in the United States and abroad, if this is not already in place. Our active membership in the International Trademark Association (INTA) facilitates our ability to make these referrals with confidence.
In our international searching we review all appropriate international trademark registers available online. Our in-house language capabilities enable us to read and assess these trademark registers in their original languages.
